Message from the Dean
Welcome to the School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Paramedical Sciences (SONMAPS) at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. The School of Nursing and Midwifery was initially established as a Department of Nursing Sciences within the School of Health Sciences in 2008. It became the School of Nursing and Midwifery in 2011 and was later rebranded in 2016 as the School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Paramedical Sciences (SONMAPS).
Our School is committed to training competent, compassionate, and innovative healthcare professionals who can meet the evolving needs of communities locally and globally. Guided by core values drawn from the disciplines of nursing, midwifery, and paramedical sciences, as well as from the wider university community and global society, we advance health education through interdisciplinary and intercultural learning in a diverse academic environment.
Our mission is to address the dynamic workforce and healthcare needs of national and global societies for the 21st century and beyond, contributing to new paradigms in nursing, midwifery, and paramedical education, as well as in the delivery of healthcare. We are committed to fostering an academic environment that promotes intellectual freedom, scholarly teaching, research excellence, pluralism, clinical and community practice, compassion, and humanity’s collective responsibility for a sustainable social, cultural, and physical environment.
The School’s experienced academic staff specialize in nursing, midwifery, community health, public health, paramedical sciences, education, and research. We actively collaborate with leading international institutions, including Oulu University (Finland), Rutgers University (USA), Charles Darwin University (Australia), and Langara College (Canada).
